So I had a goal when I started this blog…
That goal was to write and share a new post every week. For the first couple of months, I managed to roughly limp along with that schedule, but inevitably, I fell out of step. Life has a way of disrupting our schedules, especially when we haven’t fully established the habit. “Best laid plans…” and all that.
And thus, it has been a month or so since I last wrote something and shared it with the fine people of the internet.
I admit I was a bit disappointed. These kinds of things can feel like failure, and it’s easy to turn inward with shame and criticism in these moments. Then I remembered my post “Changing Perspective” from last month. I realized that I just needed a wider lens.
From this new vantage, I can see that even though I fell off, I can still get back on. I can still get back in rhythm. From this wider view, I can see that in the long run, it won’t be the missed weeks that I notice; it will be the body of work—the accomplishment of having kept going for months or, dare I say, years.
In addition, I can recognize that during that downtime, I was not idle. I was taking care of important aspects of my personal life and even started creating a new series of YouTube videos, where I invite the viewer along with me in the creative process. (Part 1 and Part 2 are now live for those who are interested.)
So sure, I missed a month of posts. But here I am, back on the horse, still working toward the dream. Still building that wall.
I hope that as you continue your own journey, you are kind to yourself and don’t let life’s inevitable disruptions get you down. I think, as ‘they’ seem to say, the trick may not be to avoid falling at all costs but to get good at getting back up.
Be well, and see you on the next one!
