From the recording The Marvelous Mister Wasco
Lyrics
Martin, he sings of blackbirds
Dancing in the wind
It’s getting late in the evening
Oh Martin won’t you please come in
If the darkness takes you
We’ll never see you again
Oh, Martin he sang of blackbirds
till the very end
Martin, he sings of bright lights
Dancing in the sky
Says the woman who loves him
"Oh Martin won’t you come on by
In the dark it is lonely
Without you by my side
Oh, Martin forget those bright lights
And just lay down to die"
Martin, he sings her love song
A whisper in the dark
Still that melody lingers
Oh the strange meadowlark
How it echoes the voices
Of their broken hearts
Oh, Martin we hear your love song
One last whisper from the dark
